Misconseptions of life: Witch craft and Evolution

For the past three years I have been on a witch hunt against any form of witchcraft in stories. I relaxed on that a bit, but my stance on sorcery, and spell casting, and hand signs used for magical purposes remain the same. I do not tolerate Harry potter, or any other witch story. I however have realized that the term Magic, is really synonymous with miracle. At least in today’s culture.

As that is the case, just saying something has magic in it does not mean anything. It is the definition of magic that counts here. C.S. Lewis used the word in a way that referred to both. Interestingly though he always had it so that Witchcraft caused nothing but harm. I use witches in my story as powerful villains that destroy.

Now I am pretty certain that I have got it right in that way. I do have to question one thing. What about evolution? I ban one religion, and yet I watch X-men. Comic books about how people have evolved into god-like forms, and with super powers. And so I wonder if it is a good idea to continue.

Now X-men cover many good things. They are not perfect, but they do have good points. And to further complicate matter one of their main good guys is a devout believer. It makes one have to ask questions.

This is one of those times that I am NOT sure. I can not answer this one because it is too complicated. This is the grey area that always makes me uncomfortable. My usual method is to ban it and then ask questions later, but this time I find it more difficult to decide what to do.

What do you say? Is X-men on the same level of Harry Potter? Or is it just a simple background to a more important tale.

Common Misconseptions of life part 1: Witch hunts

First I would like to start with a few examples.

A few years back when the first Narnia movie was released, a email group my mom was cautioning everyone not to go. Their reason? they believed that Narnia was not an allegory, and C.S. Lewis was actually a witch who was trying to convert us to Witchcraft. My dad argued with them, but they refused to budge, and were against ANYONE who disagreed with them at all.

A few months back me and Tillie got into a disagreement over rock. Whether or not God used it for good, or if Satan had sole control of rock. There was very little structure to support Tillie's argument, and her final reasoning was that it was the drums in the foreground were what made it bad.

At the same time Tessa got mad at Kutless for their Sea of faces video because some of the people wore less than modest clothing. she said she did not support bands that had videos like that. I explained that it was not their decision, but instead the director.

Me? I personally went on an attack against Dragons. They were a symbol of Satan. I reasoned if it represented him, then it therefore must be evil itself. I disregarded that Satin is also referred to as a serpent, and a lion. those things are not necessarily evil, but I didn't care.

What do al of these have in common? well two things: One is flimsy arguments, and the other is a relentless and unwilling to budge attacks. We are all guilty of these witch hunts. we all have our own personal agenda, and we forget what we were really called on this earth to do.

We need to remember we weren't sent to nitpick life. We are sinners, and if we are caught in an obvious sin, then we need to repent, but seriously! we need to lay off others. They are sinners too, and have a different perspective.

As the title indicates there will be more to this series, but i thought i would start here.

Edit: Word had turned Satan in Satin. beware of those evil satin worshipers.

And that was wierd

about four moths ago my laptop's backlight ceased to work. We have had to use a big old fat monitor to view everything. Now just as suddenly as it failed to work, it has come back.

Go figure.

Tue Kewl

This is you reporter T. Kewl with an interview with the star cast of Adam Brewer's latest novel: The King of Melendy. With us here today is Jacob, The Cloak, Martin, and Lady Rune.

T.Kewl: First I would like to ask you all if this was your fist story?
The Cloak: Yes, this is our first appearance in a book.
T.Kewl: Jacob can you tell me what your relationship with the Cloak is?
Jacob: Hostile at first. He was not my first choice for a partner in this story.
T.Kewl: you said at first. does he get better?
Jacob: I am not at liberty to say.
T.Kewl: moving on, Lady Rune, do you feel you were everything you were supposed to be?
Lady Rune: Everything in more. Adam really was great to work with on in this.
T.Kewl: Any of you dislike your character?
Martin: I do not like that I was a bit stiff.
T.Kewl: Stiff in what way?
Lady Rune: Why are you asking us questions anyway?
T.Kewl: it is my job.
(Martin gets up and leaves)
T.Kewl: Any of you have any say in this book?
The Cloak: I did a little. I influenced a few events.
T.Kewl: Did Adam feel the changes were positive?
Lady Rune: Adam was open to lots of suggestions. Including making more than just a powerful witch.
T.Kewl: What are you then?
Lady Rune: I am also a master general.
T.Kewl: Well thank you for your time.
The others: Thank you.

Well Adam Says there is a lot of editing work to do still, but he feels the project is well on its way to success. He hopes to finish editing the novel by Feb 28.
Until next time: the This is T. Kewl.

Narnia

I have been a fan of Narnia for a long time. Ever since I was 9 or so. But to be honest when I was introduced i was freaked out by the faun, considered him demonic, and lost the book. it wasn't until I saw the hilariously cheesy BBC Narnia that I fell in love with it. It was not until a year later though that i read it, and that was after ALL of the other Narnia movies.

When i heard that there was going to be a remake I was THRILLED, but then I heard that it was produced by Disney (which was the worst company out there at the time) and Andrew Adamson was the director. I hate Shrek so i wrote it off as doomed for failure.
I now love both movies. I love Prince Caspian more than the book to be honest.
Why am I telling you all this? Because I am going to do Narnia day today! :D Enjoy!

In memory of my GoGear

My mp3 player died. Somebody thought that mp3 players sometimes get bored, and as a result tried to give it swimming lessons. The poor player tried to hang in there for a couple of days, but then wheezed its last breath yesterday. I had the thing for only three weeks. It was such a young player with a long life ahead of it. Now it is just a small black paperweight.

After discussing our options i have decided to adopt a new player. I hope this one will not suffer the same fate as my old one. We plan to sell of the old one to someone who may revive it.

Hope you all had a great week.

( On a note: my laptop, Mastermind,  almost seems relieved the player died. He has been getting used a lot more for music, and i get the feeling he is a little stingy of time with me.)

an update

Some of you might have noticed yesterday that me and Katie were strangely absent. Well it all started with us learning that the brake fluid leak in our car is severe, and needs to be dealt with pronto. yes just another thing we need, a car failiure.

The day wore on with getting a strange phone call, me getting dressed to meet someone, and dealing with $60 so it was getting to be even more of a bummer. After that my computer failed to even boot to a full operating system, it was midnight before I finally had it working in a usable manner.

That's Right! We sold the couch and I got windows back on my computer! I have xp completely back, and Office stayed intact, so Katie when i buy another computer will have something she can do stuff on.

I'm having a great day, how about you?

The couch didn't sell

The people didnt come because they lived too far away.

This is just getting depressing. I have an awful computer, and i need to get another, but no one wants to buy the stupid couch.

Cold Snap 2010

IT IS COLD!

We have been dealing with temperatures that i have never dealt with outside of Arkansas. When i woke up this morning it was 25 degrees out. that already is colder than it should be here, but within an hour it dropped three degrees to 22. Weatherbug says that it should hit 14 tonight, and 11 tomorrow. since it is going to be THAT cold, we have decided to not go shopping on Friday, but put it off a day.

Now i love winter. It is my favorite time of year, but this is just too cold.

In other news i have gotten my laptop to being usable. Not where i would like it, but I'm able to write on it, so I'm not complaining too much.
I also have another offer for my couch. if i get that sold i will be doing a lot better, and maybe i will get a shot at buying a better laptop.

The playoffs are up, and the Packers and Cowboys are in. The Cowboys being my dad's favorite team, but Packers being mine. We will discover if the Cowboys can get over this whole playoff hump on Saturday, and the packers will be facing a much better Cardinals this Sunday.

Hope you are all having fun today. I will just go crawl under seven layers of blankets now.
